A romantic weekend one hour from Paris

Two nights in an 18th-century Vexin farmhouse: a room under the beams, a heated pool and hammam reserved for the guests of five rooms, and dinner by the fire. No need to take the car out again until Sunday.

In two sentences

For a romantic weekend near Paris, Le Puits d'Angle in Thibivillers (Oise) is a five-room bed & breakfast one hour north-west of the city, with a heated indoor pool, a hammam and a table d'hôtes served by the fire. Two nights for two with breakfast cost €230 to €260; with dinner both evenings (€39 per person, wine included), allow €386 to €416 in total.

Why couples choose it

A room for two, with a bathtub
Pink Lady sits under the roof above the pool, with exposed beams and a bathtub under the slope (€115 a night for two). Reinette, on the ground floor, opens onto the garden with a bathtub and a shower (€130). Chanteclerc, the most requested, has the lofty beamed ceiling of the old barn (€130, shower).
Your own door
Every room has its own entrance, a private bathroom and a separate toilet. “The sense of privacy is perfect”, as one guest put it.
Water and warmth
The indoor pool is heated all year and the hammam is right next to it; both are reserved for guests of the house. Just tell us when you would like them.
Dinner without going out
Florence cooks a single three-course menu from the market and David chooses the wine; it is served by the fire in the library, or under the magnolia in summer. Book 24 hours ahead.
A slow breakfast
Orange juice squeezed that morning, home-made yoghurts, rice pudding and jams, from 8 to 10 am by the fire or in the garden, with classical music in the background.

Which room is the most romantic?

Pink Lady for the bathtub under the eaves, Chanteclerc for the beams of the old barn, Reinette for the garden view and its bathtub. Tell us what matters most to you and we will suggest one.

Is the pool private?

It is reserved for the guests of the house's five rooms and never open to the public. Let us know when you would like to use it, and the hammam.

Do we dine with other guests?

The table d'hôtes is a single menu served in the library; on some evenings another couple dines at the same time. If you prefer to eat out, Gisors and Chaumont-en-Vexin are 10 to 15 minutes away and we book for you.

Can we come midweek?

Yes, the house is open all year at the same rates. Midweek and off-season, restaurants nearby are few and close early, so book the table d'hôtes.
